BMW X5M and BMW X6M - SUVs With M Power? Surely Not!

At my visit to the last Frankfurt Motorshow, I was able to view the new X5M and X6M up close. The standard X5 and X6 are both stunning off-roaders but when BMW have worked their magic on them and produced an M version - they really are something special.

Some purists are asking why BMW have produced an M version of an SUV. Their opinion is that the M treatment should be used only to produce road going racers like the original E30 M3. Whilst there has been nothing quite like the E30 M3 since, all M models are spectacular cars in their own right.

That being said, there are a few things that you have to take into account in order to know when to change the oil.

2. Look for and unscrew the engine oil fill cap since is the means by which the dirty oil will flow out. It also helps to have safety equipment like latex gloves, goggles, closed leather shoes etc. to avoid stains and injuries.

3. The next step cited in procedures of when to change oil is the installation and tightening of the oil drain plug with a new gasket in accordance to the manufacturer's directions. You should then place the bucket or drain pan under the oil filter. Remove the filter, plus the gasket and wipe them down with a clean, absorbent cloth.

4. The next step is manual installation of the new oil filter gasket. You should first apply a thin film of new oil in the opening and screw it tightly on. After this is done, add the new oil into the tank, making sure that you follow the car manufacturer's specifications on oil type, level, etc. This will allow you to prevent unnecessary wastages, when changing the oil.

5. At this stage in the directions of when to change oil, check the oil level using the change engine oil dipstick. The level should be a little ways above the full mark so as to accommodate the oil that will go into the filter.

6. The final step is screwing on the oil fill cap, starting the engine and letting it run for a few moments. This is to allow the new engine oil to circulate into all parts of the engine.

In a nutshell, changing the oil tends to be a very easy and necessary procedure that a driver should never neglect.

Honda Jazz Might Be Expensive But Cheap to Run

The Honda Jazz is a choice of many UK drivers and is famous for its reliability. Honda has managed to sell about quarter of a million units in the UK alone since it was introduced in 2002. It's brilliant design and flexibility distinguishes the Jazz in its class. A new more efficient Hybrid version of the Jazz has also been launched with the same drive train as of the Honda Insight. The only limitation in its wider appeal is that there is no choice of a diesel engine. The Jazz is overall a bit expensive to buy.

Though the previous version of Jazz had a very big cabin but the shape gave a boxy look. The new Jazz comes with even enormous interior, but it does not have a bulky look due to a very smartly designed bodywork. The entry level Jazz doesn't come with alloys and body coloured side mirror. A bespoke grille and blue headlights are offered on the hybrid version. Inside the cabin, the controls for stereo and heater are very easy to reach for the driver on the driver oriented dash board. The plastics used are hard and shiny giving a cheap feel.

The driving position is quite high allowing an excellent all-round view. The gear shift and steering are very light. All these features make the Honda Jazz a very easy to drive car. The Honda engines offered with Jazz are 89bhp 1.2 litre and a 98bhp 1.4-litre petrols. Both of the engines have to be pushed to get a decent performance. The hybrid performs better as extra torque is provided by the electric motor at high revs. The firm suspension is not that good on rough road surfaces and the automatic CVT gear box, wind and road make it a bit noisy inside the cabin.

Jazz enjoys a five star Euro NCAP rating. In this year's Driver Power survey it has scored 100 % for reliability. All the versions come with six airbags and ISOFIX mounting points as standard and Electronic Stability Control comes with all variants apart from the entry level S version. The Jazz has a very spacious and intelligently designed interior which can accommodate a huge variety of loads. The boot offers 399 litres of space which is more than many family hatchbacks. It also features double layered floor to store lose bits and pieces. The rear seats can be completely flattened by a button and bases can be flipped if required. The Jazz outruns most of its rivals for space except Toyota Verso and Nissan Note.

Both of the engines can return more than 50mpg with carbon emissions between 120 and 130g/km if there is not any load on the car. The figures are good but are behind the class, however if there was a diesel option available it would have been a different story. The hybrid gives an economy of 63mpg with 104 g/km of CO2 emissions, just above the 100g/km bar that could have qualified it for the road tax exemption. Still the first year road tax is free and £10 thereafter. The insurance and servicing is not that expensive either, therefore the running costs are very low, making up for the high buying price.

Winter Care For Your Car

With winter having set in across the country by the time you read this article, there are a few important aspects that you as a car owner must look into to make sure your set of wheels continue to work in their perfect state while also keeping you safe on the road!

1. Winters bring in fog - The months of December and January are notorious for morning fog which can easily reduce visibility to less than 20 meters. In such cases, it is advisable to use the fog lights and drive with the hazard lights on. Further, driving the car with the pilots lamps on (note - not the headlamps, just the smaller pilot lamps) also helps in making sure other motorists notice you on the road

2. Park safe - Out on open highways, do not attempt to stop in poor visibility conditions. Incase you have to, make sure you are on the left most side of the road with the hazard lights on.

3. Your engine needs warmth - When outside temperatures drop very low (usually under 10), the engine's management system ensure higher than normal idling to quicken up the warm-up process. For example, if the normal idling RPM for your car is 800rpm, its common for this to go upto 1000rpm until the engine has warmed up

4. Recirculate the air - While driving in winters, you will usually not feel like opening the windows due to the cold air coming in. However, it is advisable to leave the window open just a bit (a few cm) to make sure recirculation of air happens. This is done to prevent excessive stale air build up which inturn leads to setting in of foul smell inside the car over a prolonged period of time

5. Fight misting of windscreen - It is common for the front windscreen to fog up due to warmer temp inside the car. You can easily fight this by switching on the air-con and diverting the cool air to the windscreen. Note, the outside air-circulation knob/switch should also be on

6. Papers come in handy - Newspapers instead of cloth come in handy to wipe off water / moisture from the windows during early morning car usage. Keep them handy

7. Water from the exhaust - Overnight in winters the exhaust system's metal cools down to the ambient temperature. When you start your car, it rapidly becomes much hotter than the air surrounding it and results in condensation forming. This liquid is then pushed out with the exhaust and gives the appearance that your car is leaking water.

The Consumer Reports verdict

The consumer reports team admitted the 2013 Accord was no Civic, and those with any imputations to the contrary should get a one-on-one experience with the decidedly lackluster 2012 Honda Civic - the evidence is in the driving. First of all the car's steering tuning issue that robbed driver engagement in previous models has been resolved, and then the continuously variable transmission (CVT) that was somehow skewed towards annoyance feels firmly integrated. Admittedly, the Consumer Reports team rendered it impressive.

Room for one more

Talk of a roomy interior and the 2013 Honda Accord will conduct a Masters class. This might feel like the most spacious car in its category, and indeed it is. Even the capacious boot is now larger, being increased by over one cubic foot. The front bucket seats are spacious and very comfortable and in the back bench you and two more people will be so comfortable that you won't mind adding one more. The Sonata might have revamped its interior by chopping off some "flesh" but it still doesn't stand up to the Accord. Big "H" remains the master here and his slanting counterpart had better show some respect.

Improved engine

There are two engines available: the DOHC 2.4-litre 4-cylinder and the SOHC 3.5-litre V6. Though they might not match-up to the mechanics of Bavaria, once again Hyundai paves way with its clattering high-pressure injectors. The Accord's direct-injection engine is quieter at idle than most of its competitors and revving at 6400 rpm sounds healthy and robust, but it's the CVT's tuning that makes the heart grow fonder - too bad if you buy the manual transmission. Not that a manual transmissions is bad, but you can't help but fancy the Accord's CVT. This system by Honda is very efficient and does what it's supposed to: provide practical and effortless propulsion at all times.

Mileage and cost

With EPA ratings of 27/36 mpg and a low price of $22,480 the 2013 Honda Accord is simply built with practicality in mind. It remains to be one of those guilt-free indulgences and the so-called "man-maximum, machine-minimum" approach is undeniably evident.
